What a pressure cleaner service actually involves
Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:
Pump service & repair
The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.
Loss of pressure
If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.
Leaks & drips
Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.
Routine servicing
Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.
Hose, lance & gun repair
The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.
Engine & motor service
Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.
A note for Alfred Cove pressure cleaner owners
Alfred Cove is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.
Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Alfred Cove pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.
Brands we service
Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean
If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.
Long-term storage breaks pumps without anyone touching them
A pressure cleaner that sits unused for 6 months can come back to life with seized seals, gummed valves, and fouled internals. Six months sitting is harder on a pump than 6 months of use.
Pressure cleaner pumps are designed to operate. The seals stay flexible because they're being moved. The pistons stay clean because they're being washed by water. The valves stay free because they're being opened and closed thousands of times per minute.
When a pump sits idle for a long period, all of these things go the wrong way:
- Seals dry out and lose flexibility. The rubber compounds need movement and water contact to stay elastic.
- Mineral deposits crystallise. Any water left behind loses its water content over time, leaving solid mineral residues that gum up moving parts.
- O-rings take a permanent shape. An O-ring compressed between two surfaces for months will deform and not return to round when you finally use the unit.
- Spider's webs and dust block intakes. Especially on engines. Web in the air filter housing or dust packed into cooling fins.
- Rust forms on internal surfaces. Pump internals are mostly stainless and brass but small steel components rust if they sit damp.
- Carby gum forms (petrol). Fuel sitting in the carby for months turns into varnish that blocks jets.
Long-term storage protection:
- Full pump drain plus pump-saver fluid. Drain water, then run pump saver through to coat internals.
- Drain or stabilise fuel (petrol units). One or the other, both have their place.
- Drop of light oil down the spark plug hole, then pull the cord twice (petrol units). Coats the cylinder.
- Disconnect battery (cordless units, electric units with batteries). Store batteries separately at 50% charge.
- Cover and store indoors. Protected environment matters.
- Run it briefly every 3 months. Even a 5-minute test run is better than no run at all. Keeps seals flexible, fuel circulating, parts moving.
Coming back from long-term storage:
- Don't just connect water and pull the trigger. Inspect first.
- Check for visible damage: cracks, leaks, rust, missing parts.
- Connect water with the engine off, look for leaks at all connections under tap pressure.
- If everything looks good, start at low pressure with the wider nozzle.
- Run for 10 minutes at light load before doing real work. Lets seals warm up and find their shape.
If your unit has been in storage for over a year, plan on getting it serviced before relying on it. Workshop hour to inspect everything is much cheaper than discovering problems mid-job.

Common questions
Do you pick up from Alfred Cove?
Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Alfred Cove. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.
How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?
Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.
My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?
Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.
How often should I service my pressure cleaner?
Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.
Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?
Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.
How long does a repair take?
Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.

Easiest is the online booking on this page. Pick a slot, leave your address, done. Or ring us on (08) 9444 1284.
