What a pressure cleaner service actually involves
Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:
Pump service & repair
The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.
Loss of pressure
If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.
Leaks & drips
Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.
Routine servicing
Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.
Hose, lance & gun repair
The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.
Engine & motor service
Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.
A note for Applecross pressure cleaner owners
Applecross is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.
Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Applecross pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.
Brands we service
Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean
If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.
Sand and grit protection in dusty conditions
Pressure cleaners used on construction sites, sandy areas, or anywhere dusty wear out faster. There's a few specific things you can do to protect them.
Tradie pressure cleaners doing post-construction cleaning, sand blasting, or working in dusty industrial environments take more abuse than home units. The cumulative effect of fine particles getting into bearings, seals, and air intakes shortens equipment life significantly.
Dust enters the unit through:
- The water inlet. If it's a dusty environment, the water you draw might pick up dust as well as the surface dust on hose ends and fittings.
- The engine air intake. Petrol units pull air for combustion. Dusty air clogs the air filter fast.
- Cooling vents. Pumps and motors have ventilation paths to dump heat. Dust fouls these and the unit overheats.
- The pump shaft seal. Where the pump shaft enters the housing. External dust gradually works past the shaft seal.
- Quick-connect fittings. Every disconnection lets dust into the connection points.
Protection strategies for dusty work:
- More frequent air filter changes (petrol units). Daily check, weekly replacement on dusty jobs. Worth keeping spare filters in the truck.
- Wipe fittings before connecting. Clean rag in the kit, used to wipe quick-connects before mating them.
- Pre-filter on the inlet. Inline garden hose filter catches anything that comes through the supply line.
- Cover the unit during breaks. Don't leave it uncovered in dusty conditions.
- End-of-day cleaning. A wipe-down at end of every dusty job prevents dust accumulation overnight.
- More frequent pump oil changes. Cut intervals in half if working dusty jobs regularly.
- More frequent inspection. Weekly walk-around when conditions are tough.
If you're cleaning brick rubble, concrete dust, or doing other heavy-debris work, consider a dedicated unit just for that work. Cheaper to wear out a Bunnings unit on rough work than to wear out your good Karcher on the same jobs.
One more thing: never use a pressure cleaner to spray sand or other abrasives unless it's specifically designed for sandblasting. Standard cleaners aren't built for it. The pump and seals see massive wear from any abrasive in the water stream. If you genuinely need sandblasting capability, get a dedicated sandblasting unit. Different equipment for different jobs.

Common questions
Do you pick up from Applecross?
Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Applecross. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.
How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?
Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.
My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?
Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.
How often should I service my pressure cleaner?
Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.
Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?
Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.
How long does a repair take?
Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.

Easiest is the online booking on this page. Pick a slot, leave your address, done. Or ring us on (08) 9444 1284.
