What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Aubin Grove pressure cleaner owners

Aubin Grove is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Aubin Grove pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Standing too close is wearing out your pump

If you're holding the lance 10cm from the surface to "really get it clean," you're working the pump harder than it needs and shortening its life.

The instinct is reasonable. Stubborn dirt, hold the lance closer, blast it harder. The problem is that most pressure cleaners aren't designed to work at point-blank range. The kickback pressure on the pump from working too close puts extra load on the unloader, the seals, and the gun.

The right working distance varies by nozzle and pressure rating, but as a general rule:

  • 30cm to 50cm for most general cleaning on hard surfaces (concrete, tile, brick).
  • 50cm to 80cm for softer surfaces (timber, painted surfaces, vehicle bodywork).
  • 10cm to 20cm only for the toughest deposits and only with the wider 25 or 40 degree nozzle.

If you find yourself at point-blank range with a 0 degree pencil-jet nozzle, you're using the wrong tool for the job. The right answer is usually a different nozzle or a chemical pre-treatment, not closer or harder.

What standing too close does:

  • Stresses the pump. Backwave pressure into the gun and lance creates pressure spikes back to the pump.
  • Damages soft surfaces. Strips paint, gouges timber, lifts mortar from between bricks.
  • Tires you out. Reaction force on the gun is much higher when too close.
  • Wastes water. Most of the water doesn't actually clean, it just bounces off.

Better technique: start at about 50cm with the wider nozzle. Sweep slowly. Move closer only if needed for a specific stubborn spot, and move back to working distance afterwards.

If the dirt won't shift at proper working distance, the problem isn't your pressure, it's that the dirt needs chemical pre-treatment first. Spray, leave for 5 minutes, then pressure rinse. Works better, faster, and easier on the equipment than trying to muscle through with closer range.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Aubin Grove?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Aubin Grove. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.

Easiest is the online booking on this page. Pick a slot, leave your address, done. Or ring us on (08) 9444 1284.
