What a pressure cleaner service actually involves
Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:
Pump service & repair
The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.
Loss of pressure
If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.
Leaks & drips
Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.
Routine servicing
Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.
Hose, lance & gun repair
The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.
Engine & motor service
Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.
A note for Bateman pressure cleaner owners
Bateman is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.
Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Bateman pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.
Brands we service
Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean
If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.
Look at the pump, not the marketing
The pump is the heart of any pressure cleaner. The pump construction tells you more about the unit's expected lifespan than any marketing claim.
Three main pump types are used in residential and prosumer pressure cleaners. Each has different durability characteristics.
Wobble plate pumps (also called axial pumps):
- Common in cheaper electric units.
- Direct drive from motor to a wobbling plate that pushes pistons.
- Limited duty cycle (typically 30 to 50%).
- Often plastic head with non-replaceable seals.
- Lifespan: 100 to 300 hours typically.
- When they fail, usually replace the whole unit.
Crankshaft pumps (also called triplex pumps):
- Found in better residential and most commercial units.
- Three pistons driven by a crankshaft, like a small engine.
- High duty cycle (75 to 100%).
- Brass or aluminium head with separate oil reservoir.
- Replaceable seals, valves, and pistons.
- Lifespan: 1,000 to 3,000+ hours with maintenance.
- When they wear, you rebuild rather than replace.
Camshaft pumps:
- A middle ground between wobble plate and triplex.
- Used in mid-range residential units.
- Reasonable duty cycle and serviceability.
How to identify what you're looking at:
- Check for an oil sight glass on the pump body. Triplex and camshaft pumps have one. Wobble plate pumps don't.
- Look at the pump head material. Plastic = wobble plate. Brass or aluminium = something better.
- Check the manufacturer's website for parts diagrams. Available rebuild kits indicate a serviceable pump.
- Search the brand and model for "rebuild kit." If you find them, the pump is rebuildable.
Honest assessment: wobble plate pumps are fine for occasional residential use. They're cheap, they work for the duty cycle they're designed for, and replacing the whole unit every 5 to 7 years isn't crazy if you only use it occasionally.
For anything heavier, triplex or at minimum camshaft pumps are worth the extra money. They cost 30 to 50% more upfront, last 5 to 10 times longer, and can be repaired economically when something does eventually wear.
The pump is what makes a pressure cleaner. Don't ignore it.

Common questions
Do you pick up from Bateman?
Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Bateman. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.
How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?
Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.
My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?
Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.
How often should I service my pressure cleaner?
Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.
Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?
Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.
How long does a repair take?
Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
