What a pressure cleaner service actually involves
Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:
Pump service & repair
The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.
Loss of pressure
If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.
Leaks & drips
Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.
Routine servicing
Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.
Hose, lance & gun repair
The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.
Engine & motor service
Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.
A note for Calista pressure cleaner owners
Calista is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.
Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Calista pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.
Brands we service
Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean
If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.
The water inlet filter you've never checked
Every pressure cleaner has a small water filter at the inlet. Most owners don't know it exists. When it clogs up, your cleaner can't draw enough water, and the pump runs hot.
The water inlet filter is a small mesh or plastic screen that sits inside the inlet fitting where you connect the garden hose. It's there to stop sand, grit, and rust flakes from getting into the pump. The pump's tolerances are tight, and even a single grain of sand passing through the wrong place can score a piston or destroy a valve.
Filters do their job by catching debris. The downside is they catch debris. Over time, the screen clogs. When it clogs, two things happen:
- Water flow drops. Pump can't pull enough water to operate properly. Pressure drops. Pump runs hot because there's not enough water flow to cool it.
- Pump cavitation starts. When the pump can't get enough water, it starts pulling vapor instead. Cavitation hammers the internals at thousands of cycles per minute. Pumps that cavitate for any length of time get permanently damaged.
Symptoms of a clogged inlet filter:
- Pressure that's noticeably weaker than usual.
- Pump making a different sound, often a hammering or buzzing.
- Pump getting very hot to touch within 5 minutes of running.
- Trigger gun that takes longer than usual to build pressure when squeezed.
To check yours, disconnect the garden hose from the inlet. Look inside the inlet fitting with a torch. You should see a small mesh or plastic screen. On most cleaners you can pull it out with needle-nose pliers or your fingernails. Hold it up to the light. If you can see clearly through it, you're fine. If it looks like a grey or brown disc, it needs cleaning.
Cleaning is easy: rinse it under a tap, brush gently with an old toothbrush, push it back in. Replacement filters cost about 5 dollars if it's damaged or so clogged it won't come clean.
Worth checking once a year, more often if you're on bore water or in a dusty area. Five-minute job that prevents a pump rebuild.

Common questions
Do you pick up from Calista?
Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Calista. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.
How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?
Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.
My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?
Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.
How often should I service my pressure cleaner?
Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.
Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?
Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.
How long does a repair take?
Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
How do I book?
Easiest is the online booking on this page. Pick a slot, leave your address, done. Or ring us on (08) 9444 1284.
