What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Cockburn Central pressure cleaner owners

Cockburn Central is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Cockburn Central pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Let it warm up before full throttle

Petrol pressure cleaners need a minute or two to come up to operating temperature before being asked to work hard. Most users skip this and pay for it later.

Cold engines have thicker oil. Cold pumps have less flexible seals. Cold metal has tighter clearances than the design specifies. Running a cold pressure cleaner at full throttle and full pressure for the first minute is asking the equipment to do its hardest work in its worst state.

The right warm-up routine for a petrol unit:

  1. Start the engine on choke if cold. Once it fires, take the choke off as soon as the engine will hold idle without it.
  2. Let it idle for 30 to 60 seconds. You're waiting for the engine to feel and sound smooth at idle.
  3. Connect water and squeeze the trigger gently to start water flowing through the pump. This circulates water through the pump at low pressure first.
  4. Operate at half throttle for the first minute or two of work. Light cleaning, lower-pressure tasks first if possible.
  5. After that, go to full throttle and full pressure as needed.

For electric units, the warm-up isn't quite as critical (no oil to thin out), but the same principle applies. Run the pump at low pressure (trigger half-pulled, not full) for the first 30 seconds. Lets seals warm and flex into shape before full pressure hammers them.

Why this matters long term: cold-start wear is responsible for the bulk of engine and pump wear over the equipment's life. Engineers have known this for decades. The equipment that lasts 15 years instead of 5 is the equipment that gets warm-up consideration before every job.

Same logic at the end of the job. Don't shut a hot engine straight off after running it hard. Let it idle for 30 seconds first to let internal temperatures stabilise. Sudden shutdowns trap heat in the cylinder and warp parts over time.

Total time investment: maybe 90 seconds at start, 30 seconds at end. Total lifespan benefit: years.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Cockburn Central?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Cockburn Central. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
