What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Fremantle pressure cleaner owners

Fremantle is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Fremantle pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Wipe brass fittings dry after every use

Brass on pressure cleaners corrodes in the Perth coastal environment surprisingly fast. Five seconds with a rag after each job halts the process.

Brass is a copper-zinc alloy. It's chosen for pressure cleaner fittings because it resists rust, machines well, and seals reliably. What it doesn't resist is dezincification, which happens when zinc leaches out of the brass over time, especially in salty or chemically-aggressive environments. Perth's coastal salt air accelerates this process.

The signs of dezincification on a pressure cleaner:

  • Pinkish or coppery patches on what should be yellow brass. Means zinc is leaching out.
  • White or green corrosion deposits at fittings. Often visible at the inlet and the gun.
  • Fittings that go from spinning easily to seized. Corrosion bonds the threads.
  • Pitting on the surface. Once dezincification has progressed, the brass develops small holes that weaken the fitting.

What you can do to slow it down:

  1. Wipe brass dry after every use. Especially after coastal jobs where salt is involved. A clean dry cloth, takes 5 seconds.
  2. Rinse coastal jobs with fresh water before packing up. If you've been working anywhere salt spray reaches, give the unit and hose a fresh-water rinse before drying.
  3. Apply a corrosion-inhibiting spray like CRC Long Life or Penetrol periodically. Dry the fittings, spray a fine coat, wipe excess. Once a month for coastal users.
  4. Loosen and re-tighten fittings occasionally. Even good fittings benefit from being broken loose every few months to prevent permanent seizure.
  5. Replace before they fail. Pinkish brass is brass that's failing. Order replacements before the failure point.

For coastal users specifically, consider stainless steel quick-connect fittings as upgrades. Costs more (50 to 100 dollars more per fitting), but they handle salt much better than brass.

One more thing: chrome plating on top of brass doesn't fully protect it. Once chrome cracks (which it does over time), corrosion gets underneath and spreads. If you've got fittings with cracked chrome, address them rather than ignoring them.

Dezincification is invisible at first and irreversible once started. Prevention is much cheaper than replacement.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Fremantle?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Fremantle. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
