What a pressure cleaner service actually involves
Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:
Pump service & repair
The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.
Loss of pressure
If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.
Leaks & drips
Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.
Routine servicing
Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.
Hose, lance & gun repair
The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.
Engine & motor service
Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.
A note for Mount Pleasant pressure cleaner owners
Mount Pleasant is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.
Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Mount Pleasant pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.
Brands we service
Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean
If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.
Pump oil exists, you should change it
Most mid-range and commercial pressure cleaner pumps have their own oil reservoir, separate from the engine. Most users don't know it exists until the pump fails.
Crankshaft-driven pressure cleaner pumps (typical on commercial and prosumer units) have an internal oil bath that lubricates the crankshaft, the pistons, and the connecting rods. This oil is separate from the engine oil. It's water-thin, designed for the small but high-frequency motions inside the pump.
The pump oil reservoir is usually visible as a small sight glass on the pump body, or accessible via a fill cap on the top. Check your manual to see if your unit has it.
Pump oil deteriorates from:
- Heat cycling. Repeated heating and cooling breaks down the oil's molecular structure.
- Water contamination. If a seal fails between the water side and the oil side of the pump, water gets into the oil. Milky oil means contamination.
- Metal particles. Tiny wear particles from internal friction accumulate in the oil over hours of operation.
Service intervals for pump oil:
- First oil change at 50 hours. Captures break-in particles. Critical.
- Subsequent changes every 200 to 300 hours of use. Or annually, whichever comes first.
- Immediate change if oil looks milky or cloudy. Indicates water contamination, addressing it quickly limits damage.
How to change pump oil:
- Engine off, unit cool but not cold (warm oil drains better).
- Find the drain plug on the pump body (usually a small bolt at the bottom of the pump).
- Position a small container underneath.
- Remove the drain plug. Oil drains out, usually about 200 to 400ml depending on pump size.
- Refit drain plug.
- Refill through the fill cap with the manufacturer-specified pump oil (often 30 weight non-detergent, but check your manual).
- Fill to the level mark on the sight glass, or the indicator on the dipstick if your pump has one.
- Don't overfill, that's as bad as underfilling.
The right pump oil costs 15 to 30 dollars a litre. One litre lasts years for a residential user.
One critical thing: pump oil and engine oil are not interchangeable. Engine oil has additives that can attack pump seals. Pump oil lacks the detergents needed for an engine. Use the right oil in the right place.

Common questions
Do you pick up from Mount Pleasant?
Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Mount Pleasant. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.
How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?
Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.
My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?
Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.
How often should I service my pressure cleaner?
Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.
Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?
Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.
How long does a repair take?
Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
