What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Murdoch pressure cleaner owners

Murdoch is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Murdoch pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Which engine brand to look for

Petrol pressure cleaners can have engines from many manufacturers. The engine matters as much as the pressure cleaner brand itself for long-term reliability.

Pressure cleaner brands often source engines from a small group of engine manufacturers. The same Karcher unit might have a different engine option in different markets. The engine brand tells you a lot about reliability.

Engine brands ranked by what we see in workshop:

Tier 1 (engineering you can trust):

  • Honda GX series. Honda makes the best small engines in the world. Period. We service Honda GX engines from the 1980s that still run perfectly. Genuine GX engines are easily identified by the Honda red colour and clear "Honda" branding.
  • Yamaha MZ series. Less common but excellent quality. Direct competitor to Honda.

Tier 2 (good, slightly less durable):

  • Briggs & Stratton. Long-established American brand. Variable quality across model ranges. Their commercial Vanguard series is excellent. Their entry-level engines are okay.
  • Kohler. Mostly commercial sizes. Very durable when found in pressure cleaners.
  • Subaru EX series. Solid engines, common in Asian-market pressure cleaners.

Tier 3 (unknown or unbranded):

  • Generic Chinese clones of Honda GX. Often marketed under made-up brand names. Look very similar to Honda visually, much cheaper, much shorter lifespan.
  • "Powered by [made-up name]." If you've never heard of the engine brand, it's probably a low-cost manufacturer in China or India. Quality varies wildly, parts may be hard to source.

How to spot a real Honda GX vs a clone:

  1. Honda branding on the engine itself, not just a sticker.
  2. "Made in Thailand" or "Made in Japan" on the engine.
  3. Honda red colour matches actual Honda red (clones are sometimes slightly off-red).
  4. Genuine Honda parts available from any Honda dealer.

Why this matters: a Honda GX-equipped pressure cleaner with a decent pump can last 15 to 20 years with proper maintenance. A clone-engined unit might last 3 to 5 years even with the same care.

If you're choosing between two pressure cleaners at similar prices, the one with the better engine is almost always the better long-term buy. The pump can be rebuilt. A bad engine is harder to fix economically.

Honest opinion: spending an extra 200 to 400 dollars to get a Honda GX engine versus a generic engine is one of the best investments you can make in long-term equipment cost.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Murdoch?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Murdoch. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.

How do I book?

Easiest is the online booking on this page. Pick a slot, leave your address, done. Or ring us on (08) 9444 1284.
