What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Orelia pressure cleaner owners

Orelia is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Orelia pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Stop using the wrong water supply

Every pressure cleaner has minimum water flow and pressure requirements. Use the wrong supply and you'll wreck the pump in a single job.

Pressure cleaners don't make pressure from nothing. They take an existing water supply and amplify it. To do that, they need a minimum amount of water coming in. If they don't get it, the pump runs partly dry, cavitates, and damages itself fast.

Most domestic pressure cleaners need at least 8 to 12 litres per minute of inlet flow at 30 to 80 PSI. Commercial units can need 15 to 25 litres per minute. Check the spec plate on your unit if you're not sure.

Common water supply problems:

  • Long hoses with small diameter. A 30-metre 12mm garden hose flows much less water than a 10-metre 19mm hose at the same tap pressure. If you must use a long hose, use a fat one.
  • Multiple connections and quick-fits. Each connection is a flow restriction. Three fittings between the tap and the cleaner can drop flow by 30 percent.
  • Tank-fed units without proper head pressure. If you're feeding from a water tank, the tank needs to be elevated enough to provide gravity feed, or you need a transfer pump.
  • Tap not fully open. Sounds obvious. People still do it. Open the tap fully, every job.
  • Bore water with sediment. Sand and grit damage pumps. Use an inline pre-filter if you're on bore water.

How to check your water supply is adequate. Disconnect the hose from the cleaner inlet, hold it over a 10 litre bucket, time how long the bucket takes to fill with the tap fully open. Should be under one minute for most domestic cleaners. If it takes longer, your supply is marginal.

One last thing: if your cleaner ever loses prime mid-job (you hear it change tone, pressure drops or goes wonky), shut it down immediately. Continuing to run a pump that's lost prime is a fast way to wreck it.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Orelia?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Orelia. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
