What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Postans pressure cleaner owners

Postans is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Postans pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Electric pressure cleaner cord care that everyone gets wrong

Power cords on electric pressure cleaners aren't special. Just standard 240V cabling that takes a beating from outdoor use. How you handle the cord determines whether it lasts the life of the unit.

Electric pressure cleaner cords get pulled, dragged across rough surfaces, sometimes accidentally run over by the unit's wheels, occasionally stepped on. The insulation isn't indestructible. Damage that exposes the conductor inside isn't just inconvenient, it's a safety risk.

How cords get damaged:

  • Wheel run-overs. Wheeling the cleaner over its own cord. Most common cause of cord damage we see.
  • Wrapping too tight. Coiling the cord tight around the unit handle stresses the connection at the unit and at the plug.
  • Pulling the plug by the cord. Yanks on the internal connection. Should always pull by the plug body.
  • Storage with sharp bends. Cord wrapped around something with a small radius creates persistent kink points.
  • Sun damage. Cord left out in Perth sun for months. Insulation goes brittle and cracks.
  • Crushed when stored. Cord underneath the cleaner during storage gets pressed flat over time.

Right way to handle the cord:

  1. Unwind fully before use. Don't run the unit with the cord still half-wound. Cord can overheat from the magnetic field of coiled wires under load.
  2. Position the cord behind you. Always upstream of where you're working. Reduces tripping and run-over risk.
  3. Coil loosely for storage. Big loops, no tight bends. The over-and-under technique used by film crews works well.
  4. Pull plugs by the plug body. Never by the cord.
  5. Use a residual current device (RCD). If your unit doesn't have one built in, plug it into an RCD-protected outlet or use a portable RCD adapter. Pressure cleaners and water and electricity together need protection.

If you see any damage to the cord (visible copper, cracked insulation, melted areas), stop using it until repaired. Cord replacement is usually a simple job, parts are typically 30 to 80 dollars.

Don't tape over damaged cords with electrical tape and keep using them. Tape isn't an outdoor-rated repair, and it doesn't restore the insulation rating. False sense of security and a real shock risk.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Postans?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Postans. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
