What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Wattleup pressure cleaner owners

Wattleup is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Wattleup pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

Replace the rubber seals in your quick-connects

Every quick-connect fitting on a pressure cleaner has a small rubber O-ring that does the actual sealing. They wear out. Replacements cost cents. Most owners never replace them.

Modern pressure cleaners use quick-connect fittings between the gun and lance, between the lance and nozzle, and sometimes at the high-pressure hose connection. They're great for changing tools fast. They rely on a small O-ring inside each fitting to actually seal under pressure.

O-rings wear from three things: pressure cycling (every trigger pull), thermal cycling (warm then cool with each use), and chemical attack from cleaning chemistry that gets through them. After 1 to 2 years of regular use, they're usually due for replacement.

Symptoms of worn quick-connect O-rings:

  • Drips at the connection during use. Slow drip means the O-ring is on its way out.
  • Spray escaping at the connection. O-ring has failed. Need to replace immediately.
  • Pressure dropping unexpectedly. Slight leaks at the seal mean less pressure reaching the nozzle.
  • Fitting won't lock properly. Worn O-ring lets the fitting rattle.

How to replace:

  1. Disconnect the fitting (engine off, depressurised).
  2. Look inside the female side of the connection. You'll see a black or coloured O-ring.
  3. Hook it out with a small pick or a paper clip. Gently, you don't want to scratch the metal seat.
  4. Take the old O-ring to a hardware store or hydraulic supplier to match size. Common sizes are 3/8 inch and 1/4 inch but vary.
  5. Buy a small assortment pack while you're there, you'll use them.
  6. Lubricate the new O-ring with a tiny smear of waterproof grease before fitting.
  7. Push it gently into the seat. Reconnect the fitting.

Cost: typically 1 to 5 dollars for a pack of 10. Job time: 5 minutes per fitting. Saves you from accumulating leaks that gradually drop your working pressure.

One thing on chemical compatibility. If you use harsh chemicals, ask for Viton O-rings rather than standard nitrile. Viton handles aggressive chemicals much better. Costs more but lasts longer.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Wattleup?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Wattleup. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.
