What a pressure cleaner service actually involves

Pressure cleaners cop a hammering. Pumps, hoses, fittings, engines, motors, all working under high pressure for hours at a time. Most jobs that come in are one of these:

Pump service & repair

The pump is the heart of the unit. We strip it, check for wear, replace what needs replacing, and pressure test before it leaves the bench.

Loss of pressure

If your cleaner is pulsing, surging, or just not building pressure like it used to, we'll find the cause and sort it.

Leaks & drips

Water leaking from the pump, the gun, the hose connections, or the lance. Usually a worn seal or fitting. Quick fix once we've got it on the bench.

Routine servicing

Pressure cleaners need regular maintenance to keep running properly. Most people skip it. We'll bring yours back up to spec.

Hose, lance & gun repair

The bits you handle take the most punishment. Leaking guns, damaged lances, split hoses. Genuine replacements where needed.

Engine & motor service

Petrol engine won't start? Electric motor cutting out? We service the engine end, not just the pump.

A note for Winthrop pressure cleaner owners

Winthrop is a mix of established residential, beachfront blocks, and trades running out of home workshops. Plenty of cleaners and detailers along the coast, plus the usual run of homeowners with their once-a-month patio blast.

Salt air is the recurring issue down here. The brass fittings on most pressure cleaners corrode from the outside in if you don't rinse the unit with fresh water after a coastal job. We see Winthrop pumps with seized swivel fittings and locked-up trigger guns more than anywhere else in the south.

Brands we service

Karcher · Gerni · Stihl · Bar · Honda · Generac · Bosch · Ryobi · AR Blue Clean

If it's a pressure cleaner and it's broken, we can have a look. Petrol or electric, residential or commercial, doesn't matter where you bought it.

How much PSI you actually need

Marketing pushes higher PSI as universally better. The truth is that most home cleaning needs 1,500 to 2,500 PSI, and going higher mostly means damaging things you didn't mean to damage.

Pressure cleaner PSI is a function of what you're cleaning. Here are the actual pressure requirements for common jobs:

  • Vehicle washing: 1,200 to 1,500 PSI. Higher pressure damages paint and forces water past door seals.
  • Outdoor furniture: 1,500 to 2,000 PSI. Plastic and timber furniture both can be damaged by excessive pressure.
  • Concrete driveways and paths: 2,000 to 3,000 PSI works well. Concrete handles pressure well.
  • Wooden decks: 1,500 to 2,000 PSI maximum. Higher pressure strips the wood fibres.
  • Brick walls: 1,500 to 2,000 PSI. Higher pressure can lift mortar from between bricks.
  • Painted surfaces: 1,200 to 1,500 PSI. Higher pressure strips paint.
  • Pool fences and pavers: 2,000 to 2,500 PSI. Pavers can shift if you over-pressure them.
  • Roof tiles: 1,200 to 1,800 PSI. Higher pressure can crack tiles or force water under them.
  • Heavy industrial cleaning: 3,000 to 4,000+ PSI. Specific applications.

What this means for buying:

  • Light residential use only: 1,500 to 2,000 PSI is plenty. Probably an electric unit.
  • Mixed home and occasional bigger jobs: 2,000 to 2,500 PSI gives flexibility. Petrol or high-end electric.
  • Regular larger jobs (driveways, big paving areas): 2,500 to 3,000 PSI petrol unit.
  • Trade or commercial use: 3,000 PSI+ commercial petrol.

The myth: "more PSI is always better." The truth: every pressure level above what you need is wasted money on the purchase, wasted fuel or electricity in operation, and increased risk of damaging surfaces or equipment.

One real exception: high pressure with the right wide-fan nozzle and proper distance is fine for delicate jobs. The 4,000 PSI commercial unit, used at proper distance with a wide nozzle, can clean a car safely. The user just has more responsibility for technique.

For most homeowners, a 2,200 PSI petrol unit covers 95% of jobs they'll ever do. For most tradies, 3,000 PSI commercial covers 95% of professional applications. There's a reason these are the most common ratings, they're what's actually useful.

Common questions

Do you pick up from Winthrop?

Yep. Pickup and delivery available across Winthrop. We've been running services through this part of Perth for years.

How much does a pressure cleaner repair cost?

Depends on what's wrong and what brand you've got. Once we've stripped it on the bench, we ring you with a fixed price before doing any work. No hourly charging, no surprises.

My pressure cleaner won't build pressure. Worth fixing?

Almost always yes. Most "no pressure" jobs are unloader valves, worn pump seals, or blocked nozzles. None of those are expensive fixes on a decent unit. We'll have a look and tell you straight if it's not worth it.

How often should I service my pressure cleaner?

Annual oil change at minimum on the pump end. Tradies running them daily should service the pump every 6 months. Most homeowners never service theirs, which is why pumps fail at 5 years instead of 15.

Do you service electric pressure cleaners and commercial units?

Both. Karcher K-series and Bosch electrics, all the way up to Gerni and Stihl commercial petrol units. The pump end is similar across most of them, just different sizes and pressures.

How long does a repair take?

Usually back to you within a week. If parts have to come in (some of the European brands), we'll let you know.

How do I book?

Easiest is the online booking on this page. Pick a slot, leave your address, done. Or ring us on (08) 9444 1284.
